Pamela Lopez

Master of Global Affairs, Global Studies and National Security Florida International University​

Pamela Lopez graduated magna cum laude from Florida International University in 2016 with a double major in Political Science and International Relations along with earning a professional certificate of National Security from the Jack D. Gordon Institute. During her undergraduate career she interned on Capitol Hill in DC as a Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute fellow. In DC, Lopez joined and worked with the LGBT Congressional Staff Association, a nonpartisan group dedicated to advancing the interests, safety, and opportunities for the LGBT community in the U.S. House of Representatives. She also volunteered as an international site leader for the Alternative Breaks organization, she executed and fundraised for several trips to Nicaragua focusing on providing access to health services for women and children in rural areas. She is currently in her first year of graduate school and is looking to focus her future endeavors on non-traditional security risks of international development. As well as the promotion of LGBT supportive and protective policies in developing countries.

Charisse Mellison

Charisse Mellison is a graduate student at Florida International University pursuing a dual master’s degree in Social Work and Public Health with a concentration in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. She graduated from FIU with her bachelor’s degree in social work in July of 2018 and was also awarded the Dean’s Academic Excellence Award by Dr. Tomás R. Guilarte on behalf of the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work. Charisse currently works with young adults with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders as a Community Assistant for FIU Embrace. She also serves as the Lead Student Ambassador for LGBTQA Initiatives in FIU’s Office of Multicultural Programs and Services.
