Ryan Hires

2023-2024 Aqua Scholar

Ryan Hires (he/they) is a queer, transgender man raised in northern-central Florida. He is a graduating senior at the University of Miami, majoring in Sociology and Gender & Sexuality Studies with a minor in Anthropology. After graduation, he plans to begin his Master’s of Social Work in Fall 2024.

Ryan is a passionate and dedicated LGBTQ+ student leader in the South Florida community. At the University of Miami, Ryan has spearheaded change for the LGBTQ+ community through co-founding the first transgender student organization, creating the first LGBTQ+ student orientation, and serving on various LGBTQ+-focused executive boards and volunteer committees. As a 2023-2024 AQUA scholar, Ryan continues to expand his involvements and impact through connecting, volunteering, and interning with South Florida LGBTQ+ non-profit organizations and community members.
